NFU and Feeding America have partnered to help fight hunger throughout the United States. According to Feeding America, one in six Americans struggles with hunger, including one-fourth of all children.

Now, Farmers Union members can make an impact. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation has challenged Farmers Union members to raise $50,000 by providing a matching grant. Every dollar donated by Farmers Union members will be matched by the foundation, up to $50,000.

All member-driven donations go to food banks that serve hungry people in their community. Feeding America’s more than 200 member food banks serve 61,000 agencies that reach every community in the country. With the efficiency of their network, every dollar donated helps provide $17 worth of food and groceries to Americans in need. With the Buffett Foundation’s matching grant, NFU members will see that number double to $34. If Farmers Union reaches our goal of raising $50,000, it means that $1.7 million worth of food will reach those who need it most.

Ensuring all Americans have a safe, reliable, affordable food supply is something that those of us in agriculture are very concerned about. Currently, 37 million Americans are struggling with hunger. Partnering with Feeding America gives us an opportunity to help those who need it.

This means that every new membership in participating states translates to up to $10 toward feeding America’s hungry. By helping recruit new Farmers Union members, you can make a big difference.
